In this week’s Hidden Wealth Review, I teach the immediate importance of immunizing your IRAs from the IRS. This week, the House passed a bill entitled, the “SECURE Act of 2019.” SECURE stands for “Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement.” This is the biggest change to retirement legislation in over a decade. The purported purpose of the bill is to encourage saving for retirement.
While I obviously support saving for retirement, there’s a two-fold challenge surrounding this bill.
1. How and who will pay for this program? As you may have guessed, those who have worked hard to save will get taxed hard in order to subsidize those who have not saved.
2. The “loss of legacy” forced liquidation rule. A non-spouse who inherits an IRA will have just five years to remove all of the money from that IRA. This means that adult children will likely have to take this inherited IRA money during their highest wage-earning years. This generates more tax money for the government at the expense of your children.
Learn how you can disinherit the IRS rather than effectively disinherit your children by creating a huge tax burden for them. It seems as if there are new taxes being proposed daily. If there was ever a time to use a government tax savings gift card before it expires (maybe as soon as the 2020 election), that time is now!
